Jeremiah 2

Before God punishes sinners, He pleads with them to bring them to repentance. The grace of God is like a fountain of living waters forsaken by the Israelites, instead “they hewn themselves cisterns that can hold no water” (v13). This is similar to many Christians, that after knowing Jesus Christ, they look for other worthless ways that cannot save.

“Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why is he plundered?” (v14). We are God’s people, and for this purpose we are born to serve and worship His holiness.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 1

The mission of Jeremiah as prophet is "to root out and to pull down, to destroy and to throw down, build and to plant" (v10). This is the same calling that we received from the Lord. He has formed us for a particular services He intended us. Like Jeremiah we have been sanctified, He "put forth His hand and touched our mouth" (v9), so that we shall be fit for His holy service in this world.

God bless you.

Isaiah 66

This last chapter is a warning against idolatry and disobedience; a prophetic restoration of Zion which was fulfilled in 1948 (v8); salvation of the Gentile nations (v18-19); the eternal reign of God in the entire universe (v22); and the final judgment of all unbelievers (v24).

May the Lord help us daily till we reach our final destination.

God bless you.

Isaiah 65

We came to seek the Lord and found Him, but the truth is, it is He who first sought us and found by Him. Now that we are His people, we are to look for the new heavens and new earth where the former confusions, sins, and miseries shall be no more remembered. (v17) In those days, all God's redeemed people shall enjoy the fruits of their labor, and all shall live in harmony and in God's holy presence.. O Lord Jesus, come now and take Your throne.

God bless you.

Isaiah 64

Sin in abominable things which God hates. Our works are "like unclean things and our righteousness as filthy rags" (v6), they can't cover us. But by God's grace we are made worthy through the blood of Christ. And now, "We are the clay and You are potter, and all we are the works of Your hand" (v8). It's a continuing process for the better and for His glory.

God bless you.

Isaiah 63

"Doubtless You are our Father, though Abraham was ignorant of us, and Israel does not acknowledge us, You Lord are our Father" (v16). Only because of Jesus that we have been saved, and became children of God. Others may ridicule us, or Satan may confuse us, but the word of God can't be broken, we are God's holy people. Our role is to act like Jesus, the Child of God.

God bless you.

Isaiah 62

God's people must be a praying people, watchmen that "never hold their peace day and night" (v6) in seeking God's will, specially when they saw sins and errors in the community and in some of its members. The Lord rejoices over us for doing it, and we should rejoice in His majestic service.

God bless you.

Isaiah 61

The poor people are always in God's plan, including broken hearted, in captives, in prison, and in bondage. We are blessed because of Jesus, though we are not in the prominent groups of people. Christ has to be our Comforter doing everything for our comforts, that we may abound in the "fruits of righteousness, the planting of the Lord" (v3). By this, we must be humbled, led to know our own character and personality.

God bless you.

Isaiah 60

Let us arise and shine for God's glory, because if God's glory is seen upon us , He will be glorified, but we ought to return its praise to Him. "The Gentiles shall come to Your light, and kings to the brightness of Your rising" (v3). The conversion of our soul is best described here, a pleasant sight to see people like us hastening to our Lord Jesus Christ.

God bless you.

Isaiah 59

From Verses 1-8: the subject is "them" (their sins). Verses 10-15: the subject is "we" (our judgment). Verses 16-20: the subject is "God" (the Judge).

This chapter is a counsel that if we will not warn people from their sins, when the Lord judge the land, believers will also be affected. Let's warn them.

God bless you.

Isaiah 58

A fast is a day to afflict the soul, promoting holiness in Christ, "to loose the bonds of wickedness, undo the heavy burdens, free the oppressed, and break every yoke" (v6). People who are humble in God's house but hard at own home does not liberated from yoke of sin. We must turn from doing the fasting as a mere "assignment," rather make it a moment of experiencing God's holy presence in His sanctuary.

God bless you.

Isaiah 57

The Lord has 2 thrones, one is in heaven and the other is "with him who has a contrite and humble spirit" (v15). That's why God is with us, and we will be delivered from His wrath and sting of death. The idols and their worshippers shall come to nothing, but those who trust in the Lord shall be brought to the joys of heaven.

God bless you .

Isaiah 56

The Gentiles are welcome and shall be one body with the Jews, because "My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations" (v7). But God's expectations of duty from the foreigners are honesty and fairness in all dealings, "Keep his hand from doing any evil" (v2). Thanks God that we shall be gathered with our Savior and shall never be separated forever.

God bless you.

Isaiah 55

All who thirst are welcome to the blessing of salvation, but those who are drunk with the world see no need of the Savior. As for us, continue to "seek the Lord" (v6), because it shall not be in vain to seek Him. His word is alive and shall not return to God w/out producing important effects. We are the living testimonies of change, so go out with joy, share His goodness, and rejoice in the Lord.

God bless you.

Isaiah 54

Security and victory are the heritage of each faithful servant of the Lord, because "No weapon formed against you shall prosper" (v17). Our righteousness comes from God and we are sanctified by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. So, let us "Enlarge the place of our tent, and stretch out the curtains of our dwellings" (v2) by sharing the gospel to desolate unbelieving children who are also called by God.

God bless you.

Isaiah 53

This chapter is the 'Resume' of the Messiah, the most authentic report of salvation for sinners. But the OT & NT people expected that He shall come with lavish display of power in world standard. "Who shall believe our report" Isaiah said (v1). Praise God, we believe, and by His stripes we are healed and forgiven.

God bless you.

Isaiah 52

The Messiah will be highly exalted by God, but people will be astonished at his miserable appearance (v14). He shall bring cleansing to many nations, and "kings shall shut their mouth at Him" (v15). The veins of prophecy is indeed a mystery, for rich and famous will ignore it, but simple men will understand.
God bless you.

"How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who proclaims peace, who brings glad tidings of good things, who proclaims salvation, who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!” (v7)

Isaiah 50

"Who among you fears the Lord? Who obeys the voice of His servants? Who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord and rely upon His God?" (v10). If you fear God and obey Hi command, yet walk in darkness (darkness here means sufferings), it means you are under trials and testing. So don't stop, trust in the Lord, because the grace of God always appear to us in time of darkness.

God bless you.

Isaiah 49

This chapter is fulfilled in our time. Jesus is the Light to the Gentiles. The gospel was preached to the north, west, and the land of Sinim (China) (v.12). God never abandoned the Jews in spite of their rejection to Jesus. "I have inscribed you in the palm of My hands" (v16). Filipino caregivers went to Israel to carry their sons, daughters, and elderlies (v22). We are in the last days indeed.

God bless you.

Thursday, March 8, 2012

Isaiah 48

The Jews prided themselves to be God's people, swear in God's name but not in truth and in righteousness (v1). If we are sincere in our faith, God will intervene and will "test us in the furnace of affliction" (v10). If we are humble, then He will teach us to profit and will lead us in the way we should go (v17).

God bless you.

Isaiah 46

"Even to your old age, I am He, and even to gray hairs, I will carry you! I have made and will bear, even I will carry and deliver you" (v4). Our Lord never fail His followers even when we are stricken by sicknesses, when we grow weary, or get older. His plans in our lives will happen because He has purposed it.

God bless you.

Isaiah 47

God will judge Babylon (present Iraq) for their wickedness. God used them as His instrument to punish Israel, however they oppressed God's people too much, that made God more angry. "You showed them no mercy on the elderly laid your yoke very heavily" (v6). When God used us for His plan, stay to be humble, and know our limits. God hates oppressors, merciless leaders, and opportunists like Babylonians.

God bless you.

Isaiah 45

There is no God beside YHWH. There is nothing done without Him. He makes peace for the good of us all, He also create calamity not to plunge men to sin but to remind them of the impending judgment. (v.7) He is the author of all that is true, holy, good and blessed for His own purpose and glory.

God bless you.

Isaiah 44

Jerushum means "the upright one." Those who serve God will be His His possession, and He will give His spirit and blessings upon them. It is foolishness to worship and trust in the carved images because Satan blinds the eyes of unbelievers. "Return unto Me for I have delivered you (v.22).

God bless you.

Friday, March 2, 2012

Isaiah 43

God's favor to His people speaks abundant comfort. "When you pass through the waters, I will be with you" (v2). We are His witness of this favor. "I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no Savior" (v 11). His plan for us is irreversible, and those who ignore God and neglected to call upon Him, are weary of Him.

God bless you.

Isaiah 42

42:1-4 was fulfilled in Matt. 12:17. Let us rejoice and rely to Jesus, the Father is well pleased with us. Christ is the light of the world (v6) to open man's understanding Satan has blinded. He sets us free from the bondage of sin and death. So let us give to God the glory which are His, taking heed that we serve the Creator and not the creatures.

God bless you all.
