Jeremiah 27

God asserts His right to give dominion of this world “to whom it seemed proper to Him” (v5). Jeremiah persuades all people in Israel including the king of Judah to surrender to Babylon’s yoke (v12). It is wisdom to submit because that may secure their lives, though it’s hard. Similar to our lives, Jesus is the Master, and God gave Him dominion to rule the kingdom of God. Let us submit to the easy yoke of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 26

Jeremiah and Urijah prophesied faithfully against the city. But Urijah left the city for fear of his life, God allows him to lose his life. Jeremiah stayed, God protected him in danger. As Jesus said, if we protect our lives, we will lose it, but if we give up to him, we will find it, or we will be protected. Lesson: simply trust in the Lord even in time of danger or sickness, He will honor us for His name sake.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 25

Cup of wine in Scripture is represented by God’s fierce judgment. (v15-17). Nebuchadnezzar is God’s instrument to punish Israel and all nations. The rise of Babylon is not because of her own power, but of God. In the end, Babylon shall be punished too for their sins, and abused of God’s grace. Lesson: we can be God’s instrument to accomplish His purpose, but never ever forget that it is He who is in the throne, not us.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 24

Good and bad figs represent 2 kinds of people. The obedient that were “sent out by God for their own good” (v6), and the proud and disobedient spirit that remain in the land because of doubt. God had promised that new heart will be given to the obedient, and shall find good future in God’s hand. Lesson: Obey God’s voice always, even though it is sometimes hard to understand, because there are promises of security and prosperity.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 23

There is no righteousness in us without Jesus Christ, indeed ‘THE LORD IS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” His obedience unto death is the justifying righteousness of believers, and our key to heavenly happiness. Our obedience to His words is the effect of our union with Him through the power of the Holy Spirit. Thanks God, we are no longer scattered in the world of darkness, but have gathered in the fold of Christ.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 22

A sentence of death was pronounced upon 2 kings, Shallum & Coniah (Jehoiakim). Verdict: “Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness and his chambers by injustice” (v13). Nothing wrong to build big and luxurious house, but need to watch carefully against the spirit of vain-glory. Make sure that the foundation of all things that are in us is God’s righteousness.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 21

Zedekiah sent his men to Jeremiah because Judah was in danger. It is normal to people to remember God in time of distress and danger, seek counsel and pray for them, whom, at other times, they despise and oppose. They only seek deliverance from punishment, not God Himself. “I myself will fight against you” (v5). This king always ignored God’s warning to act with justice toward his people. But if God be against us, who can do any thing for us?

God bless you.

Jeremiah 20

Pashur smote Jeremiah, and imprisoned him. He was silent till God put a word into his mouth. But Jeremiah complained to God of the insults and injury he experienced. “I am in derision daily, everyone mocks me” (v7). It may happen to us but let us be reminded that God will always be with us. Sing praise unto the Lord (v13), because this is the best thing to do in time like this.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 19

Jeremiah’s message may be shocking to all people in our time, “I will bring a terrible disaster on this place, and the ears of those who hear about it will ring! (v3) Yet this is the same warning of Jesus for every generation. “For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began.” Matthew 24:21) He will come with terrible catastrophe and bring judgment to all that rejected His words, but we are secured in His hand.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 18

God has authority to form and fashion nations and individual like us as He pleases. “As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My Hand” (v6). Paul argued that we are only human being to talk back to God so that “the potter has the power over the clay to make it for special purposes or another for garbage” (Romans 9:21). The good news is, we are created by God for a notable purpose in this world.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 17

The heart, the conscience of man, in his fallen stage is deceitful above all things. (v9) It calls evil good, and good evil; it is desperately wicked and deadly. We cannot know our own hearts, and the hearts of others, even in an hour of temptation. But, when we start reading God’s word, listening His voice, and learn to watch our own heart, then will find the true condition of our heart, though a sad picture.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 16

Shall we blame our forefathers for poverty and disasters that befell over and against us? Jeremiah said, no, but look at you selves, in fact you have done worse things than your fathers. Sad to say, many people in our generation are so blind not to see their sins and errors. They keep on blaming others.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 15

Jeremiah pleads with God for mercy and relief against his enemies and slanderers. But God asked him to stop from his unbelief, that all shall be well with him. “I will make you a fortified bronze wall, they will fight against you, but they shall not prevail” (v20). It will be a comfort to God's people, when men despise them, if they have the testimony of their own consciences. If we are faithful to the Lord, He will deliver us from trouble and carry through it.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 14

Three things we can learn from this chapter: 1: God does not listen to the prayer of His people because of sin (v12), 2: Offering can be rejected by God (v12), 3: Not all who serve God had been commissioned by God, they are self proclaim prophet or servant (v14). They pretend to serve God for their own purpose. Here, Jeremiah acknowledged his own sins, & pleaded with the Lord to remember his covenant.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 13

In ancient time, no one can alter the natural color of the skin; and so is it morally impossible to change and reform our character by our own power. “Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Then may you also do good who are accustomed to do evil.” (v23) But by the grace of God & the power of the Holy Spirit, the black color of our soul can be changed. We have only two options, change or judgment.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 12

The complaints of Jeremiah are: “Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?” (v1) When we are in the darkest moment of our lives, & saw that the wicked men are flourishing, & find it hard to understand, we must look to general truths as our first principle and believe in them, that the Lord is righteous & will do no wrong over His creation. God knows who is sincere and hypocrite. Soon, divine judgment will be executed by the Lord... Today’s Reading: Jeremiah 12. God bless you. PF

Jeremiah 11

The Israelites hate to hear the word of God, without knowing that “Cursed is the man who does not obey the word of the covenant” (v3). In God’s time, all unfruitful trees (Jews and Christians) that was planted by the Lord will be uprooted and doomed. While those who preach the true word of God must be ready for persecution and face trouble with the worldly and religious people.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 10

Idolatry is abomination to God, and seeking supernatural help from idols are wicked custom of the pagan nations, a common practice in the Philippines. “But the Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King” (v10). So, let us stand in awe and give glory only in His name. If the Lord has directed our steps into the ways of peace and righteousness, let us entreat Him to enable us to walk in His ways.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 9

In this world that is full of sin and sorrow, it is foolishness for men to glory in their knowledge, health, strength, riches, or in any thing which controls and leads them to sin. “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom” (v23), but let him understand that “God is exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness on earth” (v24). God is a forgiving Father.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 7

The Israelites took pride in their temple, but nothing will profit if men do not amend their ways. God shows that obedience is better than religion and tradition. Their forefathers disobeyed God’s voice, but the children in Jeremiah’s time did worse than their fathers (v26). Always remember that when we do evil things, there is always corresponding sufferings in it.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 6

“Their ears are uncircumcised so they cannot hear; the word of God is abomination to them” (v10). God rejected their sacrifices because the false prophets speak “peace, peace,” (flattery words) where there is no peace. The land is full of sins and deceits. So God will bring disaster, cruel nation, Babylon, to punish the Israelites (v22-23). Our lesson: do not wait for God’s judgment, but listen and stop sinning.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 5

In time of Jeremiah, none could be found who behaved as upright and godly men. “The prophets prophesy falsely, the priest rule by their own power” (v31), while the people were ignorant of God’s word and therefore wicked. This is a similar situation in the Catholic Philippines and other nations around the world. Praise God for new breed of missionaries and pastors, they are true believers who are willing to sacrifice and spread the good news of salvation to all cities and remote places.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 4

The unhumbled and corrupt heart of the Israelites is like untilled ground, uncultivated with thorns and weeds. In his vision, the whole land is “without form and void, and the heavens has no light” (v23). The confused heart (land) rejected all forms of teachings and warnings from God’s servants, while others welcome them but do not obey. The prophet is not happy to deliver the message of doom and disaster. Though the Lord may correct his people very severely, yet he will not cast them off.

God bless you.

Jeremiah 3

Forgetting the Lord our God is at the bottom of all sins. By sinning we bring ourselves into trouble. But God’s promise: “Return you backsliding children, and I will heal your backsliding” (v22). Backsliding is a sickness that only God can heal. He is the Lord and He alone can save. While men harden their hearts to God’s call, distress and misery are their portion. Praise God, because of the suffering of Christ at the Cross, we have been healed from our greatest sin, separation from God.

God bless you.
