Ezekiel 23

Oholah means "her own tabernacle," Oholibah means "My tabernacle is in her." God's dwelling place is Jerusalem not Samaria or any other cities. God's throne is in heaven, and He reigns in the hearts of humble men and women.

Ezekiel 22

God's punishment to a rebellious Israelites is to scatter them to the nations, and serve pagan gods. But in His sovereign will and loving kindness, He forgives them and remove their filthiness completely (v15). In our time, people are scattered without knowing the exact reason.

When the Lord judged the land, both righteous and wicked were affected (v3). As believers, our role is to prevent this judgment by spreading the good news about God, and obtain His mercy and favor. Lesson: Go and preach the gospel to all men.

Sabbath or rest day is a sign of God's covenant with the Israelites, "that you may know that I am the Lord your God" (v.20) Through Jesus, we find rest to our souls, so we can focus our sight to Him and obey His commands.

Ezekiel compared the kings of Judah to lions, who were cruel and oppressive to their own people. “He learned to catch prey and devoured men” (v3). So God judge them and “plucked up in fury and cast to the ground” (v12). Lesson: authority with grace and love.

Ezekiel was one of the priests when the Israelites were carried captives to Babylon. The vision of “likeness of 4 living creatures” (v5) was God’s visitation to describe his calling as prophet, to warn God’s people against false prophets, and to announce the future restoration.
